Prominent Syrian film maker Naji Jerf was killed in the Turkish southern city of Gaziantep on Sunday.
Jerf, known for producing documentaries hostile to the radical group of Islamic State (ISIS), was a member of the anti-ISIS media group ‘Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently’ (RBSS).
“Film maker Naji Jerf, father of two children, was assassinated today in Gaziantep,” the media group said in a statement on Sunday evening.
The RBSS pointed out that the film maker was killed by gunmen “with a silencer-equipped pistol”.
Jerf, 37, was reportedly killed while producing a documentary on atrocities carried out by the ISIS terror group.
The victim was also editor-in-chief of the Syrian magazine Hentah, which publishes reports on the daily lives of Syrian citizens under the war conditions.
“With the death of Naji Jerf we have lost one of the most dedicated Syrian activists, a very special film maker and a brave journalist,” one of his colleagues in the RBSS said.
“However, we promise the martyr (Jerf) that we will continue revealing the truth about the atrocities of Daesh and its allies,” he said, using an Arabic acronym for ISIS.
